California’s upcoming AB5 law will have severe impacts on trucking. It punishes companies employing independent owner-operators. Many trucker will have to become W2 employees to continue working in the state, leading to more industry consolidation. Luckily this comes during a downturn in shipping demand so hopefully the near-time impact on shipping is neutral.
