Biden administration releases new oil and gas drilling plans, effectively banning new drilling off East and West coasts for the next five years. New oil leases will be restricted to the waters around Alaska and Gulf of Mexico. Under the new plan the admin reserves the right to issue no new leases or up to 11, compared to 47 under former President Trump’s plan. Interior Secretary Deb Haaland defended the plan as part of “our commitment to transition to a clean energy economy.”
