More states are beginning to use algorithms to help determine whether children should be taken from parents due to perceived neglect or abuse. These systems are being considered or in-use in California, Colorado, Oregon, Illinois and Pennsylvania. So far the systems are only used as an initial screening tool while social workers get the final say. This is largely due to the systems unreliable results and perceived racial bias.
